I happen to be writing this post during the quarantine but, really, it can be useful anytime! Most books are timeless, of course! Here are some of my favorites (in no particular order), matched with what you’re looking for in a book! The books marked with * would make great book club picks even if, like mine, your book club is meeting virtually right now!
(Disclosure: I include affiliate links in this post which means, at no additional cost to you, I make a commission if you make a purchase via my link but know I did read and do love each of these books and recommend them however you get your hand on them!)
If you want to laugh out loud, this is my all-time favorite funny chick-lit book. Nothing serious, just silly and lighthearted (bonus points if you’re finding yourself home from work and doing more housework than usual!):
If you want mystery, a little bit of tech and at least one character you wish you knew in real life (plus, this book is set in the wake of the Great Recession so it seems quite timely right now):
If you like lots of characters that all connect in some way, shape or form (think Love Actually but it’s not a romantic comedy and bonus points if you have or had a strong grandmother figure in your life but not necessary to enjoy this book):
Since many of us just need a laugh right now, I’m including another book that made me crack up and one that would make for the best romantic comedy movie ever, in my opinion (and, yes, same author as the first. She writes the Shopaholic books too but, honestly, her best work is outside of that series):
If you’re using some of your extra time to chase a dream that’s always been on the back burner:
If things feel totally overwhelming:
If you have some extra time and want to establish new, healthy habits and make sure you keep a positive attitude:
If you’re worried about finances:
Happy reading and let me know what you think if you read any of the above (firstname.lastname@example.org)!
