Friday Faves: 8 Books to Read During the Quarantine

8 Books to Read During the QuarantineI happen to be writing this post during the quarantine but, really, it can be useful anytime! Most books are timeless, of course! Here are some of my favorites (in no particular order), matched with what you’re looking for in a book! The books marked with * would make great book club picks even if, like mine, your book club is meeting virtually right now!

(Disclosure: I include affiliate links in this post which means, at no additional cost to you, I make a commission if you make a purchase via my link but know I did read and do love each of these books and recommend them however you get your hand on them!)

If you want to laugh out loud, this is my all-time favorite funny chick-lit book. Nothing serious, just silly and lighthearted (bonus points if you’re finding yourself home from work and doing more housework than usual!):

The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella

If you want mystery, a little bit of tech and at least one character you wish you knew in real life (plus, this book is set in the wake of the Great Recession so it seems quite timely right now):

*Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan

If you like lots of characters that all connect in some way, shape or form (think Love Actually but it’s not a romantic comedy and bonus points if you have or had a strong grandmother figure in your life but not necessary to enjoy this book):

*My Grandmother Asked me to Tell You She’s Sorry by Fredrik Backman

Since many of us just need a laugh right now, I’m including another book that made me crack up and one that would make for the best romantic comedy movie ever, in my opinion (and, yes, same author as the first. She writes the Shopaholic books too but, honestly, her best work is outside of that series):

Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella

If you’re using some of your extra time to chase a dream that’s always been on the back burner:

Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis

If things feel totally overwhelming:

Everything is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo

If you have some extra time and want to establish new, healthy habits and make sure you keep a positive attitude:

*Tiny Habits: The Small Changes That Change Everything by BJ Fogg

If you’re worried about finances:

You are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero

Happy reading and let me know what you think if you read any of the above (!

♥ Andrea

  1. I have Maria Forleo’s book on audible. I need to spend some time listening to the book. I have loved it so far. Atomic Habits has been living changing.

    1. I am SO happy to hear you loved Atomic Habits as much as I did/do! I seriously listen to every podcast interview I can find with James Clear and I re-read part of the book all the time!
